Research conducted during 2014 by the Department of Horticultural Sciences included:

  • Developing new blueberry varieties for commercial fruit production and landscape use as adapted to Minnesota conditions and that offer excellent fruit quality
  • Evaluating edible dry-bean and peanut breeding selections for organic production systems
  • Evaluating potato breeding lines developed at Minnesota and other North Central potato-breeding programs
  • Screening Minnesota and other potato-breeding lines for resistance to common scab
  • Determining the best grass-flowering plant combinations for use in bee lawns
